OCEAN CITY, Md. (WUSA9) -- A funeral service will be held Tuesday for the pastor who died after a man set himself on fire and entered the rectory of St. Paul's By The Sea Episcopal Church last week.
The Rev. David Allen Dingwall died at age 50 last Tuesday.
A funeral service for Dingwall is set for 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Ocean City.
He is survived by his wife and three sons.
According to DelmarvaNow.com, John Raymond Sterner entered the food pantry at the church where pastor David Dingwall and two volunteers were located. Sterner, already engulfed in flames, bear-hugged the female volunteer.
She was taken to a Baltimore burn center. The male volunteer suffered very minor burns and was not hospitalized.
Firefighters found Dingwall unconscious on the second floor of the three-story rectory. He was taken to Atlantic General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Sterner also died in the incident.
Investigators say an accelerant was involved in the quick spread of the fire, which started in the ground-floor pantry and porch area, reports DelmarvaNow.
