MOUNT RAINIER, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince George's County fire officials say a man who escaped a house fire in Mount Rainier suffered burns.
Officials say firefighters were called to the two-story house in the 3200 block of Shepherd Street at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
Firefighters spotted fire coming from the first floor of the house, which was originally constructed in 1922, say officials.
Officials say firefighters encountered cluttered conditions that made moving inside the home a challenge. Fire extended to the second floor before firefighters put it completely out, according to officials. Officials tell us the fire was extinguished in 12 minutes.
A man in his twenties was able to escape before firefighters arrived, say officials. The man, however, suffered burns to his lower extremities and was transported to a burn unit in fair condition.
Three people are displaced as a result of the fire damage, say officials. They are getting help from the County Citizen Services Unit.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
