(USA Today) -- Hoax. Prank. Jimmy Kimmel video.
Call it what you want. It was all a big joke.
Last week, a video popped up on YouTube from Caitlin Heller called "Worst Twerk Fail EVER" - showing a young woman's disastrous attempt at twerking by candlelight in her room and ending with up with her pants catching on fire. It has been viewed more than 9 million times.
It was picked up all over the place, including several television outlets. Some blamed Miley Cyrus' infamous Video Music Awards performance, others pointed out that twerking can be very dangerous.
On Monday night, Kimmel came clean. "We made it up," he said, explaining it had been shot two months ago.
He introduced the stunt woman in the video and explained she was "sworn to secrecy," which caused her to get "numerous" comments, including a "worried" Facebook message from an ex-boyfriend.
"Well, thank you for helping us deceive the world and hopefully put an end to twerking forever," Kimmel told her.
