WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The District Department of Transportation will close the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge (South Capitol Street Bridge) for routine testing from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Officials say the swing span will be lowered and then turned or "swung" around to allow water traffic to pass.

Crews test the swing span to ensure it operates properly and make any necessary repairs, according to officials.

The bridge will be reopened to traffic when as the testing and related repairs are done.
