ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A man was sentenced to nearly as many years in jail as the number of smash-and-grab robberies he committed at high-end stores in the DC area, including Tourneau, Cartier, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Neiman Marcus.

On Friday, 34-year-old Walter Douglas was sentenced to 240 months, or 20 years, for his role in a series of smash-and-grab robberies. Authorities say Douglas' crew committed more than 20 robberies in the DC area and elsewhere, stealing more than $1 million in merchandise.

Douglas and his co-defendants also have to pay $1,251.978.75 in restitution to the robbery victims.
