WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Metropolitan Police have closed a portion of 16th Street in northwest DC after a tree fell on a tractor trailer early this morning.

MPD officials say the tree came crashing down on a tractor trailer in the southbound lanes of 16th Street near Sheridan Street around 2:24 a.m. No one was injured in the incident.

Right now police are advising drivers to work around the closure by taking a left onto Sheridan Street, followed by a right on 14th Street, then take another right onto Ft. Stevens Drive, which will bring you back to 16th Street where you can turn left to continue south.

Police do not expect the roadway to be cleaned up before daylight.
