WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a Metro bus to go up in flames in northeast DC overnight.

Metropolitan Police say they received a report of a bus fire at a Metro bus facility in the 2200 block of Bladensburg Road around 1:30 Monday morning. The fire department activity briefly shut down the inbound lanes of New York Avenue between South Dakota Avenue and Bladensburg Road.

The fire was brought under control but not before charring the entire vehicle.

Philip Stewart, spokesman for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, says the fire started in engine compartment of bus while the bus was outside. No one was injured, according to Stewart. DC Fire and Metropolitan Transit Police responded to the incident and the scene was cleared within two hours, says Stewart. There was no impact on service due to the incident.
