Second police officer was shot, saved by his vest at Navy Yard

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A second Police officer was shot and saved by his bullet-proof vest during the Navy Yard shootings, according to DC Police spokesperson Gwendolyn Crump.

It is not known who the police officer is at this time. 

On Sept. 16, Navy contractor Aaron Alexis, 34, assembled a shotgun in a men's room and killed 12 people before he was fatally shot in a gunfight with law enforcement at the Washington Navy Yard.

A total of eight people were injured.
