NORTHWEST, DC (WUSA9) -- More than half a dozen shootings have parts of the district on edge.
The last 2 nights have been filled with violence, bloodshed, and distraught families. There have been 7 shooting crimes, involving 9 people shot including two dead.
The latest spate of violence claimed the son of Gloria Pannell Friday morning. She says she lost her 24-year-old son, Vernon Davis.
Gloria Pannell, mother of a homicide victim says, "I'm trying to find out who killed my son and why because my son didn't deserve this."
Willie Canty, a witness recalls, "I didn't hear no yelling, screaming just pop pop pop pop and that was it."
The recent round of bloodshed began Wednesday into Thursday morning with a quadruple shooting that left one man dead near 1st and Pierce Street NW.
Police say violence broke out during illegal gambling in the streets. There would be multiple shootings in the hours to follow in nearly every quadrant of the district.
Bullets started flying at Logan circle around 9 Thursday night in the busy street near 14th and Riggs. The wounded victim is expected to survive.
A possible car jacking in the upscale neighborhood of 14th and Jonquil Streets NW has the community on edge.
