WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- It's been 12 years since the September 11 attacks, and according to one expert, D.C. is no better now than it was then when it comes to evacuating the district and having a mass exodus.

AAA Spokesman Lon Anderson said, "If we have to get out of Washington fast, it's not going to happen."

He says the roads around D.C. are just not capable of handling hundreds of thousands of people trying to get away all at the same time.

To illustrate this point WUSA9 performed a small experiment during rush hour traffic. It took us nearly 45 minutes to travel from the center of D.C. to Arlington. A trip that was only 6.5 miles and should have only taken 17 minutes.
