CLINTON, Md. (WUSA9) -- Prince George's County police say a woman was rescued from her car after it left the road and hit a garage, catching on fire. That same woman is now charged with driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding police and related traffic offenses.
Police say officers had already responded to a robbery on Fox Run Drive when the crash happened at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday in the 7900 block of Woodyard Road in Clinton. According to police, an officer saw a car speed by and officers tried several times to stop it. They say the car would slow down enough and appear to stop but then take off again.
Police say Stacey Porter of D.C. was driving the vehicle and when she tried to make a turn, that's when she lost control, left roadway, hit mailbox, and then hit the garage of the daycare. Police tell us the vehicle caught on fire, and officers pulled the Porter out of vehicle and grabbed fire extinguishers. They put out the fire before it could spread to the building, but the fire did damage the garage.
According to police, the woman was transported to hospital with minor injuries to her face and ankle.
