BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- He may not be playing, but Tiger Woods was at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda on Wednesday and held a press conference before the AT & T National Tournament.

Woods told reporters that he took his doctors' advice not to play after suffering an elbow injury.

In his opening statement, Woods said, "It's disappointing not to play in my own event. This tourney means so much to us at the foundation and what we're able to do. We've raised $15 million here for the DC area, the two learning centers here, we have 25 Rhoades Scholars who are from here, so to us it's a very important week."

He again said that he was disappointed, partly because he "was defending," but that he will be watching the other golfers play.

We will have to see if Woods' absence on the green makes a difference in the next few days. Either way, the tournament is make a difference by benefiting the Tiger Woods Foundation. Woods is expected to present the trophy on Sunday.
