WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A father is concerned after he paid $99 dollars to make sure his 12-year-old daughter was escorted while flying alone, instead she had to fend for herself.

John Galbreath arranged for his daughter to be escorted during her connecting flight in Chicago's O'hare to Reagan National but the United Airlines agent never showed up.

Charlotte Galbreath managed to find her way to her connecting flight but her father feared it could have ended up with his daughter getting lost.

9 News Now reached out to United Airlines to find out what went wrong during the connecting flight.

Joe Micucci, UA spokesperson, wrote via email "Camp chaperones escorting Charlotte Galbreath to the Jackson airport declined our escort service for all of the travelers aged 12-17 under their supervision. Since the chaperones did not complete the pre-departure paperwork that we require for young travelers specifically under United's supervision, we did not provide the unaccompanied minor service. We will reach out to the customer directly to refund that service charge."
