ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- Montgomery County Police say they have arrested a Rockville man who is accused of plotting the death of his wife and one of her acquaintances.

Forty-eight-year-old Daniel Alfaro Mendoza is charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder. He is being held without bond.

Mendoza was arrested Tuesday. Montgomery County Police say they have been investigating the murder-for-hire scheme with DC police since February.

DC police detectives informed Montgomery County police that there was a plot to kill a Montgomery County resident. A collaborative investigation led officers to believe that based on information, he was trying to kill his wife and her friend.

According to police, the wife already had a protective order because he had threatened to kill her.

An udnercover officer spoke to Mendoza on March 5 and police say the officer said he would be willing to kill the wife and her friend for money. Mendoza then told the officer to meet him the next day so he could point out his wife.

The next day, Mendoza not only identified his wife but also gave details on how he wanted the murder to happen as well as showing the officer where his wife lived, according to police. Police say Mendoza said he'd pay $200 and sign over the title of his car to the officer.

Additionally, Mendoza, a native of Honduras, told the officer that he would return to his native country while the murders were being carried out so he would not be identified as a suspect.

Mendoza was arrested immediately after the meeting.
