WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Nathaniel Simms, one of five suspects charged in a deadly drive-by shooting in Southeast DC, has pleaded guilty to several charges stemming from the March 30th incident.   He also pleaded guilty in the shooting death of Jordan Howe the week before.

Howe was gunned down after someone mistakenly said he stole a bracelet.

"These kids are out here just killing kids for nothing, nothing," Diane Howe said about her son's killer.

She was disturbed to hear in court the suspects had inteneded to shoo everyone ather son'ts  funeral but they had trouble renting a van for their getaway vehicle in time.

They finally got it, and later that night,  drove up and opened fire on a crowd standing outside an apartment building on South Capitol Street. Many of the victims had attended Howe's funeral.

Simms admitted in courr that he stuck an AK-47 rifle out of the window and started shooting.

"He's extremely remorseful,Williams says. That's one of the reasons for the early plea.

"We also hope there's some benefit for him later for cooperating with prosecutors.

"Something less than life", his attorney says.

Simms faces at least five years to life in prison for each of the counts.  He is scheduled to appear in court again in August.
Three of Simm's four co-defendants are scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

Security was extremely tight for Thursday's hearing in DC Superior Court, with everyone in attendance having to be searched before gaining entry, and no cellphones or cameras  allowed into the courtroom.
